    The Gurami fish are perciformes fishes belonging to the family Osphronemidae, they are freshwater fishes just like the Amazon circles, the term Polyacanthidae is also used to refer to this kind of fish.

    The fish are native to Asia, from Pakistan and India to the Malay archipelago and to the northeast towards Korea, the name Gurami of Japanese origin, is also used for the fish of the families Helostomatidae and Anabantidae.

    They are considered labyrinthine fish. This means that they have a lung that allows them to draw air and use atmospheric oxygen. This type of feature is vital for fish that live in shallow areas and are poor in oxygen.
