    It is popularly known as Tetra Luminoso, belonging to the Characidae family and Characidae. This species lives in murky and dark waters. When living in waters of very dim light, they have luminescent cataphotic signals both on the flanks and on the iris of the eyes, with the aim of communicating with their congeners.
